Top Things to do in North GA

I am absolutely convinced there is something truly magical about north Georgia in November. I am pretty convinced that the fall foliage of changing leaves is just about as close to what heaven will look like as we can find here on earth. Don’t you agree?

If you are looking for something fun to do in the mountains for an afternoon I would encourage you to head toward the Hiwassee area of north Georgia. Not only are there tons of local shops to explore in town but I have included a list below of my top three recommendations for getting out and exploring in this beautiful area of the smokey mountains.

1. Brasstown Bald

Brasstown offers some amazing view’s and allows you on a clear day to see 7 states. You can hike or take a trolley to the top tower to get a truly remarkable view. The fee is $5 a person but so very worth it. There is also a pretty neat museum and video of the history behind the area that you can view from the top of the mountain.

2. Helton Creek Falls

If you are looking for two AMAZING waterfalls with a view simple hike Helton Creek Falls is the place to visit – the first waterfall is about 50 feet off the road and the second is a short walk further. The Helton Creek Falls trail is an easy 0.2 mile total hike for both falls and easy to do with kids. To get there from Blairsville take US 19/129 south 11 miles. Turn left on Helton Creek Road on the left just past the entrance to Vogel State Park. Go 2.2 to a small pullout parking area. Trail head will be on the right. Note: it is best if you have a truck or jeep to get to this falls as you cross 2 creeks on the road bed. It is a beautiful, fun drive but we were thankful we were in my husband’s truck.

If you look closely you will see me with my baby bump on the side of the waterfall

3. Alexander’s

Alexander’s is a fun hidden jewel of a store in the middle of nowhere on a mountain. Is offers adorable boutique style clothing for men and woman, jewelry, home decor, furniture, guns, and sporting goods and is very affordably priced. We always have a blast when we visit this store and find something for every member of our family.
