The Backyard DIY Madness Begins {#1}

Wondering why there is a picture of my man on a John Deer in a muddy, sloppy mess? Well, that man is my dad and that muddy sloppy mess is my backyard. Project makeover our backyard has officially commenced as of this past weekend.

Let’s start at the beginning…as you know we purchased a home this past November. When we originally looked at the house the only thing about the house we did not like was the backyard, mainly because it was non-existent. Here are some before pictures of how the backyard was up until this past weekend:

Yes, I know the bushes are in bloom in these pictures which makes them look sort of pretty but I can promise you all winter there was not a thing pretty about these bushes. As you can see with the bushes in our backyard we had no backyard.
Since November we have ben anxiously awaiting spring so we can start project get a backyard (must be said in a CSI voice). So, April 1st means it’s offically that time. After lots of research from my husband and several drawn backyard landscape plans (thank goodness I married an engineer) it was time to begin tearing out the bushes. First step? Cut down the bushes and drag to the curb for the city to pick up on trash pick up day. The hubs cut the bushes down….looks different around, huh?

If you follow me on Instagram, which you should if you don’t already, you already know what happened next. I single handedly dragged ALL of the bushes to the curb while my husband went to go get the tractor and ended up with a flat tire so was gone for five hours. Not impressed? Well, you should be…talk about a workout! I dragged all these limbs myself! Um, girl power?
So that brings us up to yesterday when I arrived home from work to this:
There they are my handsome hubby and wonderful daddy hard at work on the John Deer. Who wants to guess what we will be doing this weekend?
Please join me in praying for no rain anytime soon or our backyard will become the Warrior Dash. Stay tuned for updates…

    Working in the garden is frustrating because you can't see immediate results. But it is so rewarding later when everything bloom! I also had some pretty muddy days!

    Can't wait to check it out when it's all done! It already has made a HUGE difference when you hauled all those bushes out by the street…by yourself, crazy girl!

    Glad to hear it's going to be worth it! I sure hope so after all the money we have invested and the mud in our backyard. 🙂
