So my car has 165,000 miles and has had several issues with it lately. First of all it drinks oil. Seriously…we have to put several quarts of oil in it every few weeks which seem to evaporate into thin air. There is also something wrong with the belts. The final straw was when it wouldn’t start a few weeks ago when I was trying to leave work. My husband, who I swear is superman, was able to put a band-aid on the issue but we aren’t sure how long it will hold. All that to say we are in the market for a new vehicle.
Knowing that we will probably be expanding our family sometime in the future we are having to think about what vehicle would be the best fit for a growing family and could fit a car seat if need be. That being said I know I want some sort of cross-over vehicle, not a car, but not a SUV. I have driven a car my entire life and want to be in something bigger but really don’t want to loose the benefit of getting good mileage or the ability to drive in the city easily.
This will actually be the first car I have ever purchased. My current car was my first vehicle and it was a gift from my parents when I was high school. I have been surprised at how stressful buying a car can be! I swear I think it has been much more difficult than it was to buy a house! At least when you buy a house you have a realtor to help you. There is so much to consider when buying a car. Factors such as cost, features, mileage, safety, etc. can become overwhelming as you search for that perfect vehicle.
Two of the vehicles I’m considering are the Kia Sorento and Kia Sportage. I especially like the added feature of the Panoramic Sunroof. S-e-x-y! The below pictures were taken off the Kia website:

Kia is a company that is still relatively new to the United States. This growing brand tends to keep value a priority while still emphasizing technology and sportiness. The mileage on both of these vehicles is really good considering and the price is a little bit less than comparables.
What is your advice for purchasing a new or used vehicle? Any tips? What’s your favorite cross-over type vehicle?

Yay! You're considering a KIA! I love them and they are so stylish! I've known several people who have loved their Sorentos, but I really think you can't go wrong with either. KIA's are well rated. I really like how they are made in Lagrange so it is supporting the Georgia Economy! As for buying new verse used, I know you can get amazing deals on vehicles just off a lease. Since they are leased, the mileage is much lower compared to other used vehicles and still in really great condition. Plus, someone else has taken the depreciation hit! Can't wait to see what you guys buy!

Really, good to hear? They do seem to be very well rated! And that's great they are made in GA!

I just traded in my Hyundai Santa Fe for a Jeep. I liked the Hyundai (which is a sister company to Kia), you get a lot for your money. I didn't like the way it drove, it was not very smooth during starts and stops. I'm loving my new Jeep Patriot.

I really like the Jeep Grand Cherokee! Good to know that you didn't like the way it drove…I will keep that in mind! I am looking at the Lincoln MKX tonight. Thanks, Susan!

Jeep Wrangler are known to be great in every aspect, it is sad that they could just be abandoned in this manner without any regard for the materials and man power that might have gone into the manufacture. hope other car manufacturers are reading this.
