Some Weeks are Hard

The last week and a half + have been really, really hard…with the exception of Monday night we have not been able to sleep through the night in 10 nights. Our poor baby has not been himself. It has been so hard to watch him be in such pain. We have been to the doctor three times in less than a week.

We finally determined he has a double ear infection. We started the antibiotics, ear numbing drops, and Tylenol/Ibuprofen regiment Monday evening and that night he finally slept through the night and was himself Tuesday morning. Then he woke up Tuesday from his nap he was in extreme pain again. Last night he was up in tears all night and today he has done nothing but whimper in pain and slept/rest/lay on my chest. We have tried it all. Drugs. Essential oils. The works. Nothing is working. If you don’t believe me here is proof. Poor, pitiful baby.

All that to say through this awful experience I am learning that I can handle physical exhaustion but it is the emotional exhaustion that is really terrible. Knowing your baby is in pain and miserable and there isn’t anything you can do about it is one of the most terrible feelings in the world. I am comforted in knowing nothing can last forever and we have wonderful friends and family praying for healing but man…some days/weeks are hard!

What have you done to make your sweet baby feel better? Any advice for me? Also, does anyone use oils? I am doing a lot of research to try to determine if the oils are safe for my baby and if so how to use them and am debating purchasing the starter kit.

On a happier note our sweet boy was 8 months old this week! I managed to get some pictures in our monthly stickers prior to his pain really kicking in.  We are so thankful for the huge blessing he is our family…even in the sleepless nights and through all our tears he is precious. I never know such love was possible.

His vocabulary now includes “mama, dada, hey, and yeah.” He is crawling everywhere and has just begun to pull up on things.

Loves: other children, music, instruments, dogs, and being outside

He is an extremely curious baby and wants to feel, touch, and taste everything! He talks ALL the time! He has been having a very hard time teething but nothing has popped through the gums yet. He also still suffers from reflux and we have been referred to a GI this month.

Poor baby. I am not sure if you have tried this but…when my kids had ear infections I would put a warm cloth against the ear that hurt. It was my take on my family's use of warm oils in my ear when I was sick as a child. Because I was so unsure about putting oil in my kids ears, I felt that the warmth was what helped with the pain. It always seemed to ease their discomfort. You can use a hot water bottle with warm water wrapped up for him to sleep on or one of those new fangled heating clothes. I can't hurt. Hope it helps. He is adorable.

Praying for your precious little boy. My LO will be 4 months soon. She has reflux and is teething as well. I hate seeing her in pain. I too am curious about essential oils. As a new mom I feel like I am constantly doubting myself and so much of our lives is trial and error. Being a mom is tough but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Keeping your sweet LO in my prayers!

I have tried the warm cloth. It does seem to help. Thank you so much for the suggestion! The hot water bottle is a great idea too!

Thank you, elisabeth! Reflux is no fun…we have that as well and are actually going to see a GI in the next week for it. I hope she is rid of it soon! And you're right..being a mom is hard but the best job in the world!
