Nursery Tour #2: DIY Monogram Letters Over Crib for Boy

I am so excited about the latest update to our nursery. I am a HUGE fan of anything monogram and decided a long time ago that I wanted my baby’s monogram over their crib. When I found out I was having a boy I was determined I was not going to let that stop me so I set out to find a manly monogram. I found one and was going to purchase it online for just over $120. When I told my husband he couldn’t believe how expensive they were and said he would make them himself and that it would cost less than $20.

So I present to you the steps of making a DIY monogram for less than $20. 🙂

Step 1: Design the monogram on paper. This is actually what took the longest amount of time. My creative husband free handed the monogram we liked onto paper to practice getting the curves and arch right. If you can’t free hand you could always trace.

Step 2: Decide on your size and buy a sheet of plywood. We went with 32″ letters. We then measured it out on plywood and traced it on to the plywood to begin cutting it out.

Step 3: After tracing and cutting out the letters we held them up to the wall to see what it was going to look like. Then it was time to paint them up.

Step 4: Hang the letters! We used the pledge Velcro strips which I love cause they make it easy to remove and readjust if needed!

Thank you! It took total time of probably two hours including cutting it out, painting it, and hanging it but over several days. For paint all we bought was the little sample size for $3 at Lowes.

Isn't it pretty awesome to have a handy husband?!? He did an awesome job–it looks great! My husband does so much amazing stuff for us–in the last year he made a shed (complete with window and shutter), put a roof over our small porch and installed faux stone around our front door (which he installed last year!). He's always looking for projects. He had many when the kids were small. I'm sure you guys will make many more things for your family together. Happy Valentine's Day!
