Day Trip to Tybee Island and Jellies

While we were in Savannah for our anniversary we took a day trip to Tybee Island. Tybee was only a 10 minute drive from where we were staying so we figured why not go? I had been before but the hubs had never been so we made the drive over the bridge and there we were…

I’ll be honest…I think we have been spoiled by the Gulf Coast. The Atlantic in no way compares to the Gulf…it just doesn’t! You can’t see through the water and if you can’t see through the water there is no anyway I’m getting in…especially after watching Shark Week all week, haha!

Our favorite thing about Tybee was taking a long walk down the beach together. You see the most interesting things and people on the beach. Really, they should do an entire what not to wear series on outfits you find at the beach. πŸ™‚ One of the other things that we found in the water was three really large jellyfish! The one pictured below was not even the largest one we saw (but it was the only one I was able to snap a photo of)…I wouldn’t want to know what it would feel like to get stung by this bad daddy!

Several movies have been filmed at Tybee Island. If you have ever seen The Last Song with Miley Cyrus, you probably remember the pier from the movie. Actually the last time I was at Tybee Island they were in the process of filming that movie. Other movies filmed there are The Conspirator & Forest Gump.

We soaked up some rays, took a nap, and people watched before heading back to Savannah (oh and took pictures at the pier of course).

See what I mean about how dark the water is there?
I’m no way getting in that…especially after my brother’s friend got a bite taken out of his leg by a shark a few years ago while in the water with my brother. No thanks. The water has to be super clear for me to brave it….not that I could get out faster than a shark could swim but at least I would see it coming…

I like the picture you took under the pier. I have heard about the island and want to go when we get a chance. Enjoyed reading your post and when I go , I will not be venturing into the water, rather look at it from the beach. Happy anniversary!

Yeah, I grew up in SC near Edisto Beach (right up the coast from Tybee), and that's where we swam, and you're right, you can't see a thing. I got stung by a jellyfish once, and I didn't go back in the ocean for years. Still don't really like to!

Tybee Island is one of, if not my absolute, favorite places in the world! My husband proposed there (if facing the ocean on the pier, it was two bench swings to the left), and we got married on North beach a year ago this past March. It's the most fun at night, though–those people are crazy (in a good way!). It's very laid back, and that's what I love about it! But no…I don't go in the water, either! Anywhere. And the main reason is jellyfish! πŸ™‚

I love Tybee Island … such a pretty place. We were also at a beach during Shark Week and I found myself looking around A LOT! πŸ™‚

I know! I love Shark Week but it does make you think twice about getting in the water. πŸ™‚
