Thank you. Not once in the last 364 days did you put your needs above mine. Thank you for all those nights you ate a cold dinner because you were taking care of what I did or did not want or you were holding me simply because I wanted to be held. Thank you for the countless hours you spent watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or singing Old McDonald to me in the car. Thank you for knowing you need to keep Daddy your first love and insisting you schedule a date night, working out all the details including trying to find the perfect sitter for me that you know I will be happy with, and still not being able to stop thinking and talking about me your entire date. Thank you for the sleepless hours when you are up with me because I don’t feel good or had a bad dream. Thank you for setting boundaries even though I know all you really want to do is make me happy. Thank you for reading “Go Dog Go” to me, my favorite book, so many times that you now have it memorized and can recite it to me in the car. Thank you for always sharing with me even when I know sometimes you really don’t want to. Thank you for teaching me. Thank you for kissing my boo-boos. Thank you for changing your “design style” which used to look like a home from Fixer Upper to now a Fisher Price toy store. Thank you for changing your dream vacation plans from what used to be an European tour to a now dream vacation at Disney World. Thank you for watching ‘Despicable Me’ with me for the 5,000th time and still laughing with me at the funny parts. Thank you for allowing others to pour into my life even though I know that in your heart it is hard for you to share me with them. Thank you for teaching me about Jesus and God’s love for me. Thank you for being my best friends and soaking up my slobbery face kisses. Thank you for loving on me even when I am sick even though you know that you will probably get sick as well. Thank you for praying for me even before I was born and then for going through all the pain and scary aspects of bringing me in to this world. Thank you for loving me so much that you sometimes miss me so much when we are away from each other that even seeing another child my age will make you cry. Thank you for seeing life through my eyes especially my firsts like the first time I saw the beach or the first time I tasted a lemon. Thank you for listening to me tell you the same story over and over. Thank you for always watching when I yell “Mama watch” for the 500th time in the last hour.
But most of all thank you for spending the last 364 days modeling Christ’s love to me, your child. Don’t ever forget, sweet Mommy, you are doing God’s work. God has put you in my life as your mission field.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers! As fellow mommies may we all encourage each other no matter what stage of life. No matter stay at home mommy, part time working mommy, or full time working mommy let’s come together, link arms, and cheer each other on. I believe in you, Momma, and I think you are doing a great job!
